In 2022, overseas shipments of roundwood (coniferous) decreased by X% to X cubic meters, falling for the second consecutive year after four years of growth. In general, exports, however, saw a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by X%. The volume of export peaked at X cubic meters in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, coniferous roundwood exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
In 2022, South Africa (X cubic meters) was the main exporter of roundwood (coniferous) in Africa, creating X% of total export.
South Africa was also the fastest-growing in terms of the roundwood (coniferous) exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of South Africa increased by X percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a abrupt downturn. The volume of import peaked at X cubic meters in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, coniferous roundwood imports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a pronounced setback. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Egypt was the main importing country with an import of around X cubic meters, which finished at X% of total imports. Algeria (X cubic meters) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an X% share, followed by Morocco (X%). Nigeria (X cubic meters), Botswana (X cubic meters), Togo (X cubic meters), Rwanda (X cubic meters), Mozambique (X cubic meters) and South Africa (X cubic meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to coniferous roundwood imports into Egypt stood at X%. At the same time, Nigeria (X%), Algeria (X%), Rwanda (X%), Mozambique (X%), South Africa (X%), Botswana (X%) and Togo (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Nigeria emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Morocco (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period.
