Exports from Colombia

In 2021, shipments abroad of crispbread decreased by -35.7% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 998% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, crispbread exports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 1,064% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

The United States (X tons) was the main destination for crispbread exports from Colombia, with a 87% share of total exports. Moreover, crispbread exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Canada (X kg), tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the UK (X kg), with a 4.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to the United States totaled +48.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Canada (+31.2% per year) and the UK (+6.1% per year).

In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for crispbread exports from Colombia, comprising 78% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the UK ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Canada, with an 8.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United States totaled +59.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the UK (+18.9% per year) and Canada (+37.9% per year).

Over the period under review, imports enjoyed notable growth. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, crispbread imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 396% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

The UK (X tons), the United States (X kg) and Italy (X kg) were the main suppliers of crispbread imports to Colombia.
