Exports from Turkey

For the third consecutive year, Turkey recorded growth in shipments abroad of way-type unit heads for working metal, which increased by 123% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports saw buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 696% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, way-type unit head exports declined significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 368%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Iran (X tons) was the main destination for way-type unit head exports from Turkey, with a 91% share of total exports. Moreover, way-type unit head exports to Iran exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Iraq (X tons), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Iran was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Iraq (+6.6% per year) and Turkmenistan (-30.6% per year).

In value terms, Iran ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for way-type unit heads for working metal exports from Turkey, comprising 53% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkmenistan ($X), with a 16% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Iran was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Turkmenistan (-35.5% per year) and Iraq (+16.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average way-type unit head export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -80.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price faced a deep reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by 137% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkmenistan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (+12.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Turkey

In 2021, supplies from abroad of way-type unit heads for working metal decreased by -26% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports faced a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 783%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, way-type unit head imports reduced remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, imports faced a dramatic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 812% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of way-type unit head to Turkey, accounting for a 87% share of total imports. Moreover, way-type unit head imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by India (X tons), with a 2.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany totaled -15.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+47.2% per year) and India (+232.2% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of way-type unit heads for working metal to Turkey, comprising 80% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), with a 3.9% share of total imports. It was followed by India, with a 2.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Germany stood at -12.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (-33.6% per year) and India (-12.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average way-type unit head import price amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -41.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 136% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton), while the price for France ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+4.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
