Broken Rice Price in Nepal (CIF) - 2022

The average broken rice import price stood at $249 per ton in 2022, growing by 3% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.0%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the average import price increased by 14%. The import price peaked at $262 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for India.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for India amounted to +3.0% per year.

Broken Rice Price in Nepal (FOB) - 2022

The average broken rice export price stood at $1,169 per ton in 2022, shrinking by -4.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 61%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $2,250 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($3,574 per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada ($941 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to New Zealand (+5.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Broken Rice Imports in Nepal

In 2022, supplies from abroad of broken rice decreased by -47% to 33K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports showed a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 102%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 73K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, broken rice imports shrank significantly to $8.3M in 2022. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 127%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $19M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, broken rice exports contracted markedly to $3K in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 61% against the previous year.
