Brown Rice Price in Ghana (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average brown rice import price amounted to $1,865 per ton, shrinking by -3.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 33%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,924 per ton, and then fell slightly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($4,148 per ton), while the price for Sweden ($791 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Suriname (+38.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Brown Rice Price in Ghana (FOB) - 2022

The average brown rice export price stood at $298 per ton in 2022, falling by -5.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a abrupt decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 65%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $1,621 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($1,538 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($144 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+396.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Brown Rice Imports in Ghana

In 2022, overseas purchases of husked (brown) rice decreased by -20.4% to 121 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, showed a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 185%.

In value terms, brown rice imports contracted significantly to $225K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 256% against the previous year.

Brown Rice Exports in Ghana

For the fourth year in a row, Ghana recorded growth in overseas shipments of husked (brown) rice, which increased by 89% to 85 tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 1,535%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, brown rice exports surged to $25K in 2022. In general, exports posted a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 747% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
