Buckwheat Price in Germany (CIF) - 2023
In June 2023, the average buckwheat import price amounted to $1,045 per ton, reducing by -5% against the previous month. Overall, the import price saw a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 when the average import price increased by 39% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $1,526 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to June 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($3,334 per ton), while the price for Lithuania ($777 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+7.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Buckwheat Price in Germany (FOB) - 2023
In June 2023, the average buckwheat export price amounted to $1,787 per ton, growing by 7.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, export price indicated modest growth from June 2022 to June 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.4% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, buckwheat export price increased by +55.7% against March 2023 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 28% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure in June 2023.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Italy ($4,363 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($710 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+9.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Buckwheat Imports in Germany
In 2022, supplies from abroad of buckwheat decreased by -13% to 6.6K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +16.7% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +58.8% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 45% against the previous year.
In value terms, buckwheat imports dropped to $7.4M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 86% against the previous year.

Buckwheat Exports in Germany
After three years of growth, overseas shipments of buckwheat decreased by -2.2% to 3.3K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 44% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 3.3K tons, and then declined slightly in the following year.
In value terms, buckwheat exports dropped to $4.2M in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion.
