Canned Vegetable Price in Greece (FOB) - 2023
In August 2023, the average canned vegetable export price amounted to $2,579 per ton, waning by -7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in November 2022 an increase of 12% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $2,774 per ton in July 2023, and then dropped in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($3,761 per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($1,455 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Norway (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Canned Vegetable Price in Greece (CIF) - 2023
In August 2023, the average canned vegetable import price amounted to $1,901 per ton, with an increase of 8.8% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 when the average import price increased by 14% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $2,000 per ton. From June 2023 to August 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Romania ($6,326 per ton), while the price for Egypt ($1,268 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+5.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Canned Vegetable Exports in Greece
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of canned vegetables, when their volume decreased by -5.9% to 282K tons. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 25% against the previous year.
In value terms, canned vegetable exports expanded modestly to $723M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +7.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 10% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
