Canned Vegetable Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023
The average canned vegetable import price stood at $2,399 per ton in September 2023, shrinking by -2.9% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 6.1% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $2,521 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to September 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Greece ($4,455 per ton), while the price for China ($1,094 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Canned Vegetable Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023
In September 2023, the average canned vegetable export price amounted to $1,967 per ton, surging by 1.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 6.2% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $2,041 per ton in October 2022; afterwards, it flattened through to September 2023.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($4,212 per ton), while the average price for exports to Costa Rica ($1,159 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Philippines (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Canned Vegetable Imports in the United States
In 2022, imports of canned vegetables into the United States rose slightly to 828K tons, with an increase of 4.6% compared with 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.4% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 15%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, canned vegetable imports rose sharply to $1.8B in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +9.2% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Canned Vegetable Exports in the United States
In 2022, shipments abroad of canned vegetables was finally on the rise to reach 345K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable curtailment.
In value terms, canned vegetable exports amounted to $640M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period.
