Clove Price in Brazil (FOB) - 2023

In September 2023, the average clove export price amounted to $9,035 per ton, declining by -2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price saw a slight downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 46% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $11,196 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to September 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Colombia.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for the Dominican Republic amounted to +14.2% per month.

Clove Price in Brazil (CIF) - 2022

The average clove import price stood at $7,696 per ton in 2022, which is down by -9.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 40% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $14,100 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($11,683 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($6,930 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+94.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Clove Exports in Brazil

In 2022, shipments abroad of cloves decreased by -34% to 980 tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, exports showed a precipitous setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 73%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 4.2K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, clove exports fell to $8.3M in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $19M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Clove Imports in Brazil

For the fourth consecutive year, Brazil recorded growth in supplies from abroad of cloves, which increased by 145% to 104 tons in 2022. In general, imports recorded a significant increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, clove imports surged to $801K in 2022. Overall, imports saw a significant expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
