Crude Oil Price in Russia (FOB) - 2022
In January 2022, the average crude oil export price amounted to $570 per ton, surging by 4.3% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.8%. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2021 when the average export price increased by 8.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum in January 2022.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In January 2022, the highest price was recorded for prices to the Czech Republic ($612 per ton) and Hungary ($603 per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($520 per ton) and Finland ($526 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2021 to January 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (+5.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Crude Oil Price in Russia (CIF) - 2022
In 2021, the average crude oil import price amounted to $357 per ton, increasing by 9.6% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, crude oil import price increased by +97.9% against 2013 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by 18%. The import price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Kazakhstan.
From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Kazakhstan amounted to +7.5% per year.
Crude Oil Exports in Russia
After two years of decline, shipments abroad of crude petroleum oil increased by 2% to 235M tons in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable reduction.
In value terms, crude oil exports reduced notably to $91.4B in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 52% against the previous year.

Crude Oil Imports in Russia
After two years of growth, purchases abroad of crude petroleum oil decreased by -79.8% to 390 tons in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 666%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 1.9K tons, and then dropped sharply in the following year.
In value terms, crude oil imports fell sharply to $139K in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 680% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $628K, and then contracted significantly in the following year.
