Crude Soybean Oil Price in India (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average crude soybean oil import price amounted to $1,037 per ton, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, showed a pronounced reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2022 an increase of 3.6% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $1,758 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to July 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from Egypt ($1,110 per ton) and Switzerland ($1,061 per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($1,026 per ton) and Argentina ($1,027 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (0.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Crude Soybean Oil Price in India (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average crude soybean oil export price amounted to $1,669 per ton, picking up by 53% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded temperate growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 130%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $2,783 per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was New Caledonia ($1,801 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Philippines totaled $1,560 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+0.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Crude Soybean Oil Imports in India
Crude soybean oil imports into India surged to 3.8M tons in 2022, with an increase of 21% compared with the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, crude soybean oil imports skyrocketed to $5.9B in 2022. In general, imports showed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 49%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
