Drawing Board Price in Malaysia (CIF) - 2021
The average drawing board import price stood at $1.9 per unit in December 2021, rising by 31% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2021 when the average import price increased by 136% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $3.5 per unit in January 2021; however, from February 2021 to December 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($2.2 per unit), while the price for Singapore ($707 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+0.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Drawing Board Price in Malaysia (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average drawing board export price amounted to $2.7 per unit, picking up by 2.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 34%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($4.8 per unit), while the average price for exports to Sweden ($0.3 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+7.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Drawing Board Imports in Malaysia
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of slates and boards with writing or drawing surfaces, when their volume decreased by -5.4% to 2.1M units. Overall, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +14.6% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +50.3% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 41% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at 2.3M units in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, drawing board imports contracted remarkably to $3M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +35.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 72% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $3.8M, and then shrank markedly in the following year.

Overall, exports saw a sharp slump. The exports peaked at 726K units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, drawing board exports contracted modestly to $823K in 2022. In general, exports showed a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 5.8%.
