The United States (203K tons) remains the largest fireworks consuming country worldwide, comprising approx. 34% of total volume. India (31K tons) ranked third in terms of total consumption with a 5.1% share.

In value terms, the United States ($594M) led the market, alone. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($152M). It was followed by China.

Over the period under review, global production hit record highs at 608K tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, fireworks production declined to $1.5B in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, showed a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the production volume increased by 13% against the previous year. Global production peaked at $1.9B in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Production By Country

The country with the largest volume of fireworks production was China (490K tons), accounting for 81% of total volume. Moreover, fireworks production in China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, India (31K tons), more than tenfold. Pakistan (14K tons) ranked third in terms of total production with a 2.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in China amounted to +1.1%. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: India (-3.7% per year) and Pakistan (-0.9% per year).

Imports

World Imports of Fireworks

In 2022, purchases abroad of fireworks increased by 40% to 451K tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, fireworks imports skyrocketed to $1.4B in 2022. In general, total imports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +80.6% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports By Country

The United States represented the major importer of fireworks in the world, with the volume of imports recording 204K tons, which was approx. 45% of total imports in 2022. The Netherlands (27K tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 5.9% share, followed by Malaysia (4.7%). Thailand (17K tons), Poland (15K tons), Indonesia (15K tons), Russia (14K tons), the UK (12K tons), Italy (10K tons), Belarus (10K tons), Germany (10K tons), the Czech Republic (8.8K tons) and Denmark (7.5K tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to fireworks imports into the United States stood at +8.4%. At the same time, Malaysia (+33.2%), Belarus (+32.4%), Denmark (+7.5%), the Czech Republic (+6.8%), Poland (+5.7%), the Netherlands (+3.7%) and Italy (+2.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Malaysia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +33.2% from 2012-2022. The UK and Thailand experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Russia (-3.2%), Indonesia (-3.3%) and Germany (-12.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In 2022, overseas shipments of fireworks increased by 38% to 457K tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, fireworks exports soared to $1.4B in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +74.0% against 2020 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports By Country

China prevails in exports structure, recording 408K tons, which was near 89% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by the Netherlands (25K tons), achieving a 5.5% share of total exports. Germany (7.3K tons) held a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to fireworks exports from China stood at +2.0%. At the same time, the Netherlands (+12.6%) and Germany (+2.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Netherlands emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +12.6% from 2012-2022.
