In 2022, the average groundnuts import price amounted to $1,855 per ton, surging by 2.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, groundnuts import price increased by +64.3% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 17%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were Turkey ($1,855 per ton) and Egypt ($1,855 per ton), while the price for China ($1,855 per ton) and Syrian Arab Republic ($1,855 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+11.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average groundnuts export price amounted to $1,373 per ton, shrinking by -2% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, groundnuts export price increased by +60.3% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 64%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $1,678 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Free Zones.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Free Zones amounted to +2.8% per year.

Groundnuts Imports in Jordan

In 2022, approx. 336 tons of ground-nut (in-shell) were imported into Jordan; with a decrease of -49.8% on the year before. Overall, imports showed a precipitous contraction. The smallest decline of -13.7% was in 2021.

In value terms, groundnuts imports declined dramatically to $623K in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a precipitous slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 0.8%.

Groundnuts Exports in Jordan

After three years of growth, shipments abroad of ground-nut (in-shell) decreased by -91% to 18 tons in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a sharp decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 16% against the previous year.

In value terms, groundnuts exports shrank rapidly to $25K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a precipitous curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 87%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $283K, and then plummeted in the following year.
