From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of consumption, amongst the leading consuming countries, was attained by Slovakia (with a CAGR of +65.6%), while consumption for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United States ($824M), Slovakia ($741M) and Italy ($619M) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of market value in 2022, with a combined 34% share of the global market.

Slovakia, with a CAGR of +65.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to market size in terms of the main consuming countries over the period under review, while market for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 34% against the previous year. Global production peaked at $6.5B in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Production By Country

China (79M units) constituted the country with the largest volume of isolating switch production, comprising approx. 32% of total volume. Moreover, isolating switch production in China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Slovakia (36M units), twofold. Italy (23M units) ranked third in terms of total production with a 9.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume in China amounted to +15.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Slovakia (+69.0% per year) and Italy (+6.0% per year).

Imports

World Imports of Isolating Switches & Make-And-Break Switches

After six years of growth, purchases abroad of isolating switches & make-and-break switches decreased by -1.4% to 79M units in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. Global imports peaked at 80M units in 2021, and then fell modestly in the following year.

The following importers - Germany (2.1M units), Switzerland (2M units), South Africa (1.9M units), the United Arab Emirates (1.9M units), Spain (1.7M units), Vietnam (1.7M units), the United States (1.5M units) and Algeria (1.5M units) - together made up 18% of total imports.

Nigeria was also the fastest-growing in terms of the isolating switches & make-and-break switches imports, with a CAGR of +40.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Switzerland (+28.4%), Vietnam (+9.3%), Algeria (+6.9%), Spain (+6.8%) and the United Arab Emirates (+6.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, South Africa (-2.6%), Germany (-3.1%) and the United States (-7.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, the United States ($240M), Nigeria ($133M) and Switzerland ($78M) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 22% of global imports.

Nigeria, with a CAGR of +35.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices By Country

The average isolating switch import price stood at $26 per unit in 2022, approximately equating the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a perceptible reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 6.5% against the previous year. Global import price peaked at $38 per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Global isolating switch exports skyrocketed to 103M units in 2022, with an increase of 83% compared with 2021. In general, total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +96.5% against 2020 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, isolating switch exports rose remarkably to $2.1B in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 8.8% against the previous year. China dominates exports structure, reaching 54M units, which was approx. 52% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Italy (9.2M units) and Switzerland (7.6M units), together mixing up a 16% share of total exports. Turkey (2.8M units), the Netherlands (2.3M units), Mexico (2.2M units), Bulgaria (2.1M units), France (2M units), South Korea (1.8M units) and the United States (1.6M units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the isolating switches & make-and-break switches exports, with a CAGR of +29.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Bulgaria (+14.7%), Turkey (+5.3%), the Netherlands (+3.9%) and France (+3.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Switzerland experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Italy (-1.8%), Mexico (-2.5%), South Korea (-3.5%) and the United States (-8.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Export Prices By Country

The average isolating switch export price stood at $21 per unit in 2022, dropping by -41.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by 7.6% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $35 per unit. From 2021 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($67 per unit), while China ($2.5 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
