Lead Price in Italy (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average lead import price amounted to $2,600 per ton, leveling off at the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2022 an increase of 23% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $2,652 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to July 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Spain ($2,928 per ton) and the UK ($2,872 per ton), while the price for Nigeria ($2,291 per ton) and South Korea ($2,415 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+280.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Lead Price in Italy (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average lead export price amounted to $2,836 per ton, falling by -2% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 26% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $2,892 per ton in June 2023, and then fell in the following month.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In July 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to Bulgaria ($2,949 per ton) and Germany ($2,926 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($2,069 per ton) and Slovenia ($2,531 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+22.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Lead Imports in Italy
In 2022, the amount of lead imported into Italy skyrocketed to 117K tons, increasing by 51% compared with 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +53.3% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, lead imports surged to $279M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +75.6% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Lead Exports in Italy
In 2022, shipments abroad of lead decreased by -43.8% to 34K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 46% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 60K tons, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, lead exports fell sharply to $84M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted a pronounced increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 81%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $138M, and then declined significantly in the following year.
