Linseed Oil Price in Japan (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average linseed oil import price amounted to $2,744 per ton, remaining stable against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 19% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $3,578 per ton. From February 2023 to July 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Italy ($5,309 per ton), while the price for Germany ($1,484 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+1.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Linseed Oil Price in Japan (FOB) - 2022
The average linseed oil export price stood at $4,557 per ton in 2022, shrinking by -12.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a mild decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 17%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $5,366 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($17,274 per ton), while the average price for exports to Thailand amounted to $3,819 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+14.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Linseed Oil Imports in Japan
Linseed oil imports into Japan dropped to 8.8K tons in 2022, waning by -2.6% compared with 2021 figures. In general, imports showed a mild reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 22% against the previous year.
In value terms, linseed oil imports skyrocketed to $24M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.0% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +83.0% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 56%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Linseed Oil Exports in Japan
For the fourth consecutive year, Japan recorded growth in shipments abroad of linseed oil, which increased by 7.5% to 23 tons in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +11.3% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 25%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, linseed oil exports declined to $107K in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +16.8% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +59.1% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 41%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $114K, and then declined in the following year.
