Liquefied Propane Price in Switzerland (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average liquefied propane import price amounted to $881 per ton, surging by 29% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a mild reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average import price increased by 87% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $1,840 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($1,346 per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($872 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, the average liquefied propane export price amounted to $2,107 per ton, approximately equating the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 291% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $2,107 per ton, leveling off in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($4,740 per ton), while the average price for exports to Israel ($2,044 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+65.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Liquefied Propane Imports in Switzerland

In 2022, supplies from abroad of liquefied propanes decreased by -24.6% to 27K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +13.8% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +47.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 52% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 36K tons, and then fell rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, liquefied propane imports declined modestly to $24M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 147% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $24M, and then reduced slightly in the following year.
