Magnesite Price in Malaysia (CIF) - 2021
The average magnesite import price stood at $219 per ton in November 2021, waning by -78.7% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, recorded prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in October 2021 an increase of 653% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $1,029 per ton, and then reduced dramatically in the following month.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for China.
From November 2020 to November 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Indonesia amounted to +25.4% per month.
Magnesite Price in Malaysia (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average magnesite export price amounted to $511 per ton, declining by -1.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a perceptible curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 91% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $1,069 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($1,641 per ton), while the average price for exports to Indonesia ($73 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to India (+95.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Magnesite Imports in Malaysia
In 2022, purchases abroad of magnesite decreased by -9.1% to 4.7K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 116% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 5.1K tons, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, magnesite imports reduced markedly to $1.3M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 82%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $1.6M, and then shrank markedly in the following year.
