Maize Price in Myanmar (FOB) - 2022
The average maize export price stood at $302 per ton in December 2022, with an increase of 3.3% against the previous month. In general, the export price posted a modest expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2022 an increase of 68% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $837 per ton. From June 2022 to December 2022, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In December 2022, the highest price was recorded for prices to China ($309 per ton) and Bangladesh ($300 per ton), while the average price for exports to Vietnam ($292 per ton) and the Philippines ($292 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Maize Price in Myanmar (CIF) - 2022
The average maize import price stood at $2,077 per ton in December 2022, reducing by -74.6% against the previous month. In general, the import price saw a perceptible slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in November 2022 an increase of 214% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $8,175 per ton, and then reduced dramatically in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2022, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($3,201 per ton), while the price for South Africa totaled $400 per ton.
From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Maize Exports in Myanmar
For the fourth year in a row, Myanmar recorded growth in shipments abroad of maize, which increased by 22% to 1.6M tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated significant growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +23.7% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +89.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 45%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, maize exports expanded markedly to $658M in 2022. In general, exports enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 62%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Maize Imports in Myanmar
In 2022, supplies from abroad of maize decreased by -13.8% to 14K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 50% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 16K tons, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, maize imports expanded remarkably to $43M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +7.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
