Mullite Price in Hungary (FOB) - 2023
In August 2023, the average mullite export price amounted to $1,438 per ton, reducing by -1.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 an increase of 18% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1,722 per ton. From January 2023 to August 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was South Korea ($1,740 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($1,076 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Czech Republic (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average mullite import price stood at $1,483 per ton in 2022, jumping by 86% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a perceptible curtailment. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $2,077 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($1,558 per ton), while the price for the United States amounted to $890 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+3.0%).
Mullite Exports in Hungary
In 2022, approx. 9.1K tons of mullites were exported from Hungary; with a decrease of -6% on the year before. Over the period under review, total exports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +44.6% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 54%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 9.7K tons, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, mullite exports soared to $13M in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +97.3% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 56% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
