In September 2023, the average non-alloy steel u-section export price amounted to $591 per ton, with a decrease of -3.9% against the previous month. In general, the export price recorded a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 an increase of 48% month-to-month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1,911 per ton. From January 2023 to September 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In September 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to the Philippines ($631 per ton) and Vietnam ($605 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mongolia ($472 per ton) and Nigeria ($498 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (-0.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Non-Alloy Steel U-Section Price in China (CIF) - 2023
In September 2023, the average non-alloy steel u-section import price amounted to $940 per ton, dropping by -8.2% against the previous month. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 when the average import price increased by 21% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,305 per ton. From June 2023 to September 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($1,729 per ton), while the price for South Korea ($838 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+1.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
