Non-Combined Refrigerator-Freezer Price in Japan (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average non-combined refrigerator-freezer import price amounted to $280 per unit, falling by -3.3% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in September 2022 an increase of 8% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $301 per unit in November 2022; however, from December 2022 to July 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Thailand ($337 per unit) and South Korea ($330 per unit), while the price for Denmark ($229 per unit) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($230 per unit) were amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+1.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Non-Combined Refrigerator-Freezer Price in Japan (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average non-combined refrigerator-freezer export price amounted to $735 per unit, flattening at the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 when the average export price increased by 44% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $814 per unit in October 2022; however, from November 2022 to July 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($899 per unit), while the average price for exports to Cambodia ($325 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Taiwan (Chinese) (+8.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Non-Combined Refrigerator-Freezer Imports in Japan
In 2022, approx. 684K units of household refrigerators and freezers (not combined) were imported into Japan; surging by 4% against the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 21%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 712K units. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, non-combined refrigerator-freezer imports rose notably to $196M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +12.3% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Non-Combined Refrigerator-Freezer Exports in Japan
In 2022, approx. 194K units of household refrigerators and freezers (not combined) were exported from Japan; surging by 5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 9.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at 365K units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, non-combined refrigerator-freezer exports declined to $137M in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +44.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 53% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $146M, and then shrank in the following year.
