The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the production volume increased by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, global production attained the peak level at $9.9B in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

India (118K tons), Thailand (84K tons), Poland (77K tons), Spain (73K tons), France (64K tons), the Netherlands (63K tons), Russia (61K tons), Germany (60K tons) and Italy (58K tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the other carbonates imports, with a CAGR of +46.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, South Korea (+17.3%), Japan (+14.4%), the United States (+11.7%), Russia (+9.5%), Thailand (+7.9%), India (+7.8%), the Netherlands (+7.7%), Poland (+5.6%), France (+5.4%), Germany (+2.6%) and Italy (+2.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. In value terms, China ($6.8B) constitutes the largest market for imported other carbonates worldwide, comprising 54% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Korea ($1.8B), with a 15% share of global imports. It was followed by Japan, with a 9.4% share.

In China, other carbonates imports expanded at an average annual rate of +54.4% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: South Korea (+32.3% per year) and Japan (+24.6% per year).

Import Prices By Country

In 2022, the average other carbonates import price amounted to $3,956 per ton, surging by 112% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a strong expansion. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Belgium (101K tons), the United States (97K tons), Russia (78K tons), Argentina (63K tons) and France (46K tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Chile increased at an average annual rate of +35.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, France (+37.1%), Argentina (+21.0%), Belgium (+18.5%), South Korea (+10.1%), Russia (+3.9%), the United States (+3.5%), Germany (+2.2%) and China (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, France emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +37.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Poland (-5.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Chile, Belgium, South Korea and Argentina increased by +35, +2.3, +2 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Chile ($7.8B) remains the largest other carbonates supplier worldwide, comprising 65% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($1.1B), with a 9.6% share of global exports. It was followed by Argentina, with a 5.7% share.
