The country with the largest volume of plastic extruder consumption was Canada (286K units), accounting for 47% of total volume. Moreover, plastic extruder consumption in Canada exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest consumer, Spain (64K units), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by China (41K units), with a 6.7% share.

In value terms, Canada ($5B), India ($2.6B) and the United States ($1.8B) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of market value in 2022, with a combined 54% share of the global market.

In general, production, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the production volume increased by 23%. Over the period under review, global production attained the peak volume at 340K units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, plastic extruder production reduced to $9.5B in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the production volume increased by 20%. Global production peaked at $13.9B in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Production By Country

China (145K units) remains the largest plastic extruder producing country worldwide, comprising approx. 55% of total volume. Moreover, plastic extruder production in China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, the United States (25K units), sixfold. India (23K units) ranked third in terms of total production with an 8.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume in China stood at +7.9%. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: the United States (-3.3% per year) and India (-1.6% per year).

Imports

In 2022, overseas purchases of extruders for working rubber or plastics increased by 160% to 519K units, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a significant increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, plastic extruder imports reached $3.2B in 2022. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, global imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Imports By Country

In 2022, Canada (286K units) was the key importer of extruders for working rubber or plastics, achieving 55% of total imports. Spain (64K units) took a 12% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by India (5.1%). In terms of the main importing countries, Spain, with a CAGR of +7.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices By Country

The average plastic extruder import price stood at $6,171 per unit in 2022, which is down by -60.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average import price increased by 116%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $39,546 per unit. From 2016 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($6,055 per unit), while Canada ($140 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

The global exports peaked at 206K units in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, plastic extruder exports rose rapidly to $3.1B in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 9.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the global exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports By Country

China was the key exporter of extruders for working rubber or plastics in the world, with the volume of exports reaching 105K units, which was approx. 60% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by the UK (19K units) and India (16K units), together comprising a 20% share of total exports. The following exporters - Belgium (6.6K units), Italy (5.8K units), Japan (3.4K units) and the Netherlands (2.7K units) - together made up 10% of total exports.

Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +26.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, the UK (+46.7%), Belgium (+32.1%) and India (+23.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the UK emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +46.7% from 2012-2022. The Netherlands experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Japan (-7.7%) and Italy (-9.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (+44 p.p.), the UK (+10 p.p.), India (+6.1 p.p.) and Belgium (+3.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while the Netherlands, Japan and Italy saw its share reduced by -2.3%, -9.3% and -19.9% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, the largest plastic extruder supplying countries worldwide were China ($763M), Italy ($412M) and Japan ($268M), together accounting for 47% of global exports. India, the Netherlands, the UK and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 5.6%.

The UK, with a CAGR of +14.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices By Country

In 2022, the average plastic extruder export price amounted to $17,261 per unit, rising by 25% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by 33% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $56,827 per unit. From 2014 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($77,715 per unit), while Belgium ($387 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
