Preserved Tomato Price in Serbia (CIF) - 2023

In September 2023, the average preserved tomato import price amounted to $1,257 per ton, waning by -11% against the previous month. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 20% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $1,647 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Italy.

From October 2022 to September 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Bulgaria amounted to +1.0% per month.

In 2022, the average preserved tomato export price amounted to $1,427 per ton, shrinking by -2.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 12% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $2,659 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($3,930 per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovenia ($762 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Switzerland (+15.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, approx. 3.2K tons of preserved tomatoes were imported into Serbia; surging by 83% on the previous year's figure. Overall, imports enjoyed a significant expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 36% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
