The average import price for alloy steel flat-rolled products, of a width of less than 600mms stood at $2,393 per ton in August 2023, falling by -18.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a slight curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2023 an increase of 16% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $2,931 per ton, and then contracted remarkably in the following month.

Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $2,976 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to September 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for India.

From December 2022 to September 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Germany amounted to +3.6% per month.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +51.0% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 38%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, imports of alloy steel flat-rolled products, of a width of less than 600mms soared to $124M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 48%. Over the period under review, imports of attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
