Price for Aluminium Waste and Scrap in the Netherlands (FOB) - 2023

In June 2023, the average aluminium waste and scrap export price amounted to $1,550 per ton, with a decrease of -5% against the previous month. Overall, the export price recorded a mild slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 11% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $1,818 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Austria ($2,051 per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($1,223 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Austria (+2.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average aluminium waste and scrap import price stood at $1,456 per ton in June 2023, approximately mirroring the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, showed a mild slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 11% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $1,817 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Australia ($2,377 per ton), while the price for Austria ($1,239 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Exports of Aluminium Waste and Scrap in the Netherlands

In 2022, shipments abroad of aluminium waste and scraps decreased by -5% to 421K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 15%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 443K tons, and then fell in the following year.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +36.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 64%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $693M, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.
