Price for Cereals; Millet, Other than Seed in Malaysia (CIF) - 2023

The average import price for cereals; millet, other than seeds stood at $657 per ton in December 2023, dropping by -11.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price saw a mild descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 an increase of 17% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $753 per ton in September 2023; however, from October 2023 to December 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was India ($4,841 per ton), while the price for Ukraine ($528 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+15.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mauritius ($3,455 per ton), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($1,951 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (+13.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

After three years of growth, purchases abroad of cereals; millet, other than seeds decreased by -34.2% to 4.2K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 128%.
