In September 2023, the average import price for coal; anthracite, whether or not pulverised, but not agglomerateds amounted to $237 per ton, shrinking by -18.5% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 when the average import price increased by 111% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $577 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Italy ($635 per ton), while the price for Spain ($188 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for coal; anthracite, whether or not pulverised, but not agglomerateds amounted to $318 per ton, rising by 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Ukraine.
