In June 2023, the average cocoa; paste, not defatted import price amounted to $4,314 per ton, dropping by -7.9% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 27% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $4,784 per ton. From February 2023 to June 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($5,249 per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($3,855 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+4.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $4,853 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Germany.

As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In general, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +11.5% over the last three-year period. After three years of growth, shipments abroad of cocoa; paste, not defatteds decreased by -75% to 213 tons in 2022. In general, exports saw a precipitous shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 850 tons, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.
