In July 2023, the average import price for copper plates, sheets and strips amounted to $11,647 per ton, with an increase of 4.5% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.6%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 14% m-o-m. The import price peaked in July 2023.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Germany ($12,496 per ton) and China ($12,414 per ton), while the price for Turkey ($8,839 per ton) and Bulgaria ($9,487 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+2.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for copper plates, sheets and strips stood at $11,363 per ton in July 2023, falling by -5.5% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in December 2022 when the average export price increased by 20% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $13,487 per ton. From January 2023 to July 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($23,482 per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovakia ($5,371 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Copper Plates, Sheets and Strip in the Czech Republic

In 2022, the amount of copper plates, sheets and strips imported into the Czech Republic fell to 36K tons, approximately equating the year before. Overall, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +12.8% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +44.2% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 44% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 36K tons, leveling off in the following year.

In value terms, copper plates, sheets and strip imports expanded rapidly to $337M in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 70% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Exports of Copper Plates, Sheets and Strip in the Czech Republic

For the fourth year in a row, the Czech Republic recorded growth in shipments abroad of copper plates, sheets and strips, which increased by 29% to 6.7K tons in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +13.0% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, copper plates, sheets and strip exports soared to $76M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +17.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +69.9% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
