In 2022, the average import price for flax; hackled or otherwise processed, but not spuns amounted to $4,703 per ton, dropping by -20.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average import price increased by 115% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $15,499 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($31,441 per ton), while the price for Pakistan ($952 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2013 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Pakistan (+40.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the fourth year in a row, Malaysia recorded growth in supplies from abroad of flax; hackled or otherwise processed, but not spuns, which increased by 0.6% to 6 tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +13.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 31%. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, imports of flax; hackled or otherwise processed, but not spuns declined dramatically to $28K in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant curtailment. The smallest decline of -16.5% was in 2021.
