Price for Human and Animal Blood in Spain (CIF) - 2022
The average human and animal blood import price stood at $78,845 per ton in 2022, jumping by 27% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, human and animal blood import price increased by +55.3% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average import price increased by 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $93,944 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($221,345 per ton), while the price for Andorra ($465 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+10.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average human and animal blood export price amounted to $18,865 per ton, waning by -11.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 14% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $94,310 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($60,649 per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($1,445 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Portugal (-2.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Imports of Human and Animal Blood in Spain
In 2022, purchases abroad of human blood and animal blood prepared for therapeutic, pophylactic or diagnostic uses decreased by -41% to 1.7K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports continue to indicate a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 57% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 2.9K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, human and animal blood imports reduced rapidly to $131M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a abrupt decrease.
