In June 2023, the average import price for iron or non-alloy steel; bars and rods, hot-rolled, in irregularly wound coilses amounted to $1,078 per ton, with an increase of 23% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a slight setback. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,157 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to June 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($1,167 per ton), while the price for Chile ($900 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (0.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
