In October 2023, the average import price for mollusc preparations; clams, cockles and arkshells, prepared or preserveds amounted to $2,476 per ton, declining by -12.8% against the previous month. In general, the import price showed a slight shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2022 when the average import price increased by 16% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $3,578 per ton. From December 2022 to October 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($5,741 per ton), while the price for Thailand ($2,251 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+1.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In October 2023, the average export price for mollusc preparations; clams, cockles and arkshells, prepared or preserveds amounted to $6,596 per ton, with an increase of 26% against the previous month. Over the period from October 2022 to October 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.8%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 26% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $6,766 per ton. From March 2023 to October 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($6,380 per ton), while the average price for exports to Albania amounted to $3,882 per ton.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+8.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the fourth year in a row, Italy recorded growth in supplies from abroad of mollusc preparations; clams, cockles and arkshells, prepared or preserveds, which increased by 15% to 16K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +13.1% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, imports of mollusc preparations; clams, cockles and arkshells, prepared or preserveds soared to $49M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated significant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +21.7% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +80.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 35%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
