Price for Prepared or Preserved Fish and Dishes in Japan (CIF) - 2023
In November 2023, the average import price for prepared or preserved fish and dishes other than dried, smoked, salted or in brine amounted to $7,194 per ton, rising by 2.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 an increase of 6.4% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $8,060 per ton. From January 2023 to November 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($10,076 per ton), while the price for the Philippines ($5,742 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (+0.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Price for Prepared or Preserved Fish and Dishes in Japan (FOB) - 2023
The average export price for prepared or preserved fish and dishes other than dried, smoked, salted or in brine stood at $22,332 per ton in November 2023, rising by 41% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild curtailment. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $26,413 per ton in November 2022; however, from December 2022 to November 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($46,655 per ton), while the average price for exports to Congo ($4,185 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to New Zealand (+1.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, imports of prepared or preserved fish and dishes other than dried, smoked, salted or in brine into Japan expanded modestly to 408K tons, surging by 4.1% against 2021 figures. Overall, imports, however, saw a noticeable slump.
