Price for Soap in Bars Other than for Toilet Use in Uganda (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average export price for soap and organic surface-active products in bars other than for toilet use amounted to $591 per ton, with a decrease of -6.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 15%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $836 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Democratic Republic of the Congo ($807 per ton), while the average price for exports to Sudan ($522 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Tanzania (+4.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, the average import price for soap and organic surface-active products in bars other than for toilet use amounted to $918 per ton, rising by 6.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a pronounced setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 19%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $1,425 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($2,370 per ton), while the price for Thailand ($335 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+9.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Exports of Soap in Bars Other than for Toilet Use in Uganda
After three years of growth, overseas shipments of soap and organic surface-active products in bars other than for toilet use decreased by -1.8% to 22K tons in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 8.4% against the previous year.
In value terms, exports of soap and organic surface-active products in bars other than for toilet use reduced to $13M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years.
