Price for Steel, Stainless; Angles, Shapes and Sections in India (FOB) - 2023
In November 2023, the average export price for steel, stainless amounted to $2,991 per ton, leveling off at the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2023 an increase of 11% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $3,848 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to November 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($4,117 per ton), while the average price for exports to Brazil ($2,214 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (-0.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

The average import price for steel, stainless stood at $6,310 per ton in 2022, surging by 33% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 234% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $7,499 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($41,230 per ton), while the price for Japan ($2,392 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+25.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Steel, Stainless; Angles, Shapes and Sections in India
In 2022, the amount of steel, stainless exported from India contracted remarkably to 45K tons, dropping by -26.4% compared with 2021 figures. Over the period under review, exports showed a deep contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 61K tons, and then contracted markedly in the following year.
In value terms, exports of steel, stainless reduced to $179M in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +44.9% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 61% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $199M, and then declined in the following year.
