In June 2023, the average tobacco, unmanufactured; tobacco refuse export price amounted to $7,625 per ton, increasing by 32% against the previous month. Over the period under review, export price indicated moderate growth from June 2022 to June 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.2% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, tobacco, unmanufactured; tobacco refuse export price increased by +31.6% against May 2023 indices. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Canada ($12,486 per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia ($3,256 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia (+7.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price peaked at $4,800 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, tobacco, unmanufactured; tobacco refuse exports totaled $239M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +49.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 28%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
