The average import price for tomatoes; prepared or preserved otherwise than by vinegar or acetic acid stood at $1,041 per ton in December 2021, growing by 1.6% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2021 when the average import price increased by 72% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $1,305 per ton in March 2021; however, from April 2021 to December 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was China ($1,886 per ton), while the price for Egypt ($798 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2021 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the average export price increased by 45%. The export price peaked at $1,929 per ton in 2019; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ethiopia ($2,280 per ton), while the average price for exports to Democratic Republic of the Congo ($806 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Burundi (+18.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, imports of tomatoes; prepared or preserved otherwise than by vinegar or acetic acid into Kenya dropped sharply to 3.5K tons, with a decrease of -61.3% on the previous year's figure.
