Price for Waste, Parings and Scrap, of Plastics in Japan (FOB) - 2023

The average export price for waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses stood at $401 per ton in November 2023, reducing by -1.9% against the previous month. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a slight curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 3.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $489 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to November 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($637 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($322 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+2.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price peaked at $1,133 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to November 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($2,129 per ton), while the price for South Korea ($383 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (-0.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
