Pulses Price in the Netherlands (CIF) - 2022

The average pulses import price stood at $758 per ton in 2022, rising by 4.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 18%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $950 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($2,312 per ton), while the price for Lithuania ($318 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+5.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Pulses Price in the Netherlands (FOB) - 2022

The average pulses export price stood at $1,766 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 12% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the average export price increased by 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,912 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($2,690 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($1,089 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Norway (+11.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Pulses Imports in the Netherlands

For the fourth consecutive year, the Netherlands recorded growth in overseas purchases of pulses, which increased by 8% to 252K tons in 2022. In general, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +17.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +61.5% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 48% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, pulses imports rose remarkably to $191M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated significant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +25.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +95.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 44%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Pulses Exports in the Netherlands

For the fourth year in a row, the Netherlands recorded growth in overseas shipments of pulses, which increased by 1% to 76K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a significant increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +22.8% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +85.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, pulses exports rose rapidly to $135M in 2022. Overall, exports posted significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
