The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 12% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 9.4M tons, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, rapeseed oil imports expanded markedly to $14B in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 59% against the previous year. Over the period under review, global imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 11%. The global exports peaked at 9.3M tons in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, rapeseed oil exports surged to $14.1B in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 58%. Over the period under review, the global exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In 2022, Canada (2.7M tons) was the key exporter of rapeseed oil, generating 32% of total exports.
