Recovered Paper Price in Sri Lanka (FOB) - 2022
The average recovered paper export price stood at $319 per ton in 2022, increasing by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, recovered paper export price increased by +63.5% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($319 per ton), while the average price for exports to Pakistan totaled $208 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to India (+4.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

The average recovered paper import price stood at $279 per ton in 2022, growing by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last decade. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($1,737 per ton), while the price for Australia ($48 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+19.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Recovered Paper Exports in Sri Lanka
In 2022, shipments abroad of recovered paper increased by 134% to 131K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports enjoyed a buoyant increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
