Soya Bean Price in Malaysia (CIF) - 2021
In December 2021, the average soya bean import price amounted to $580 per ton, dropping by -7.3% against the previous month. Over the period from December 2020 to December 2021, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.6%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2021 when the average import price increased by 10% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $649 per ton in July 2021; however, from August 2021 to December 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was Canada ($761 per ton), while the price for the United States amounted to $572 per ton.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+1.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Soya Bean Price in Malaysia (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average soya bean export price amounted to $855 per ton, surging by 18% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 34%. The export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($1,519 per ton), while the average price for exports to Indonesia ($811 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Pakistan (+47.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Soya Bean Imports in Malaysia
In 2022, overseas purchases of soya beans were finally on the rise to reach 722K tons after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a noticeable decrease.
In value terms, soya bean imports surged to $490M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +16.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +58.9% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Soya Bean Exports in Malaysia
After two years of decline, shipments abroad of soya beans increased by 7.5% to 8.9K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a deep downturn.
In value terms, soya bean exports surged to $7.6M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
