Soya Bean Price in Nepal (CIF) - 2022

The average soya bean import price stood at $710 per ton in 2022, picking up by 14% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, soya bean import price increased by +45.6% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($726 per ton), while the price for the United States ($705 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+8.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Soya Bean Price in Nepal (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average soya bean export price amounted to $1,917 per ton, declining by -6.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, enjoyed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 65%. The export price peaked at $2,051 per ton in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($3,631 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($910 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+15.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Soya Bean Imports in Nepal

In 2022, purchases abroad of soya beans was finally on the rise to reach 136K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a noticeable descent.

In value terms, soya bean imports soared to $97M in 2022. Overall, imports enjoyed a buoyant increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Soya Bean Exports in Nepal

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of soya beans, when their volume decreased by -91.2% to 2.9 tons. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a sharp downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 39%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 33 tons, and then contracted notably in the following year.

In value terms, soya bean exports dropped rapidly to $5.5K in 2022. In general, exports saw a precipitous curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 70% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $68K, and then declined notably in the following year.
