Starches; Inulin Price in Poland (FOB) - 2023
In August 2023, the average starches; inulin export price amounted to $821 per ton, which is down by -6.4% against the previous month. Overall, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 10% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $1,097 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to August 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Russia ($1,274 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($585 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (+1.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Starches; Inulin Price in Poland (CIF) - 2023
In August 2023, the average starches; inulin import price amounted to $926 per ton, leveling off at the previous month. Over the period from August 2022 to August 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 11% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $975 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to August 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($1,344 per ton), while the price for Lithuania ($587 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ukraine (+7.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Starches; Inulin Exports in Poland
Starches; inulin exports from Poland contracted significantly to 167K tons in 2022, reducing by -20.3% compared with 2021 figures. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a tangible expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +20.0% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 51%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 210K tons, and then shrank sharply in the following year.
In value terms, starches; inulin exports soared to $142M in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.1% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +71.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 40%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

For the fourth consecutive year, Poland recorded growth in purchases abroad of starches; inulins, which increased by 22% to 194K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +13.3% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, starches; inulin imports skyrocketed to $144M in 2022. In general, imports recorded a significant expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
