Italy (11K units) ranked third in terms of total production with a 2.5% share.

In China, tobacco making machinery production remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: Togo (+2.4% per year) and Italy (-0.6% per year).

Imports

Global tobacco making machinery imports surged to 1.9M units in 2022, jumping by 33% compared with the previous year. In general, imports saw a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 89% against the previous year. Global imports peaked at 1.9M units in 2013; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

In value terms, tobacco making machinery imports declined to $737M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 29% against the previous year. Moreover, the Philippines emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +83.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Canada (-4.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The United States (+5.1 p.p.), Georgia (+2.9 p.p.) and the Philippines (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global imports, while Canada saw its share reduced by -8.3% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United States ($52M), the Dominican Republic ($30M) and Switzerland ($16M) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 13% of global imports.

Among the main importing countries, the Dominican Republic, with a CAGR of +17.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices By Country

In 2022, the average tobacco making machinery import price amounted to $384 per unit, dropping by -30.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a abrupt slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the average import price increased by 140% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $1,685 per unit. In value terms, tobacco making machinery exports dropped modestly to $562M in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 25%. Over the period under review, the global exports hit record highs at $1B in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports By Country

China (6.8K units), Italy (6.3K units) and Honduras (5.1K units) represented roughly 49% of total exports in 2022. Russia (3K units) ranks next in terms of the total exports with an 8.2% share, followed by Japan (4.8%) and the Netherlands (4.6%). Singapore (1,410 units), the United States (1,246 units), South Africa (1,214 units), Hungary (1,072 units), Poland (801 units), Bulgaria (635 units) and Romania (556 units) took a little share of total exports.

Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a temperate expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 301% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $35,662 per unit. From 2016 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
