Tobacco Refuse Price in Germany (CIF) - 2023

In July 2023, the average tobacco refuse import price amounted to $1,222 per ton, rising by 11% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated a perceptible increase from July 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.3% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, tobacco refuse import price increased by +14.2% against May 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 34% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum in July 2023.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($1,878 per ton), while the price for Italy ($514 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+6.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average tobacco refuse export price stood at $888 per ton in 2022, waning by -20.5% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 40%. The export price peaked at $1,117 per ton in 2021, and then contracted significantly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($1,667 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($232 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+0.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, tobacco refuse imports soared to $20M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
